This Therapeutic Counselling course will suit trainees seeking an advanced counselling practitioner training course, as well as those who see it as a further stage in the progression route to the CPCAB Level 5 Diploma.
The level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is also part of the Foundation Degree in Counselling awarded by the Open University and students can independently undertake the required OU modules to top up to this higher qualification during or following the completion of this course.
Interview and you must have already completed:-
• Certificate in Counselling Skills, (CPCAB award CSK2) and
• Certificate in Counselling Studies (CPCAB award CSTL3)
• or an equivalent 180 hours counselling training

Unit 2 - Work within a counselling relationship
Unit 3 - Work with client diversity
Unit 4 - Work with a user centred agency approach
Unit 5 - Work with self awareness in the counselling process
Unit 6 - Work within a framework of counselling theory and skills
Unit 7 - Work self-reflectively as an agency counsellor
How will I be assessed?
The course is evidenced based and you will be assessed throughout the course by means of reflective journals, presentations, case studies, skills practice, assignments and supervised counselling practice. There will be an external exam in the second year.
You must provide evidence of a minimum of 10 hours of personal counselling by the end of the programme.
A minimum of 100 hours of formally contracted, supervised counselling as a volunteer within a counselling agency must be undertaken. Feedback from the agency's manager/supervisor is a course requirement.
This course is part-time and runs for 1 evening per week for 2 years, with up to10, one-day Saturday schools each year.
