Days, Times and Fees for Part Time and HE courses are subject to change. HE Tuition Fees will be confirmed April 2018.
You will be required to purchase Uniform (T Shirt and Trousers), safety boots & safety glasses (approx £55). Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
The units that you will study on this course are predominantly practical and include three VRQ units at level 3 and three NVQ units of Performing Engineering Operations at level 2.
5 GCSE’S A*-C including Maths, English & Science or a Level 2 qualification with the appropriate selection and grades of units.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
What will I study?
For the VRQ Certificate, you will study:
• Engineering and environmental health & safety • Engineering organisational efficiency and improvement • Advanced Turning
For the NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations, you will study: • Producing components using hand fitting techniques • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations • Preparing and Using milling machines
You will study the advanced Welsh Baccalaureate, where you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales 'fits in' with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising. The learner can progress to a VRQ level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology Level which includes Advanced Milling and Computer Aided Design. This course is offered on a part time basis only for employed learners working in an Engineering environment.
How will I be assessed?
Your practical competences will be continually assessed and you will also be required to sit an on-line multiple choice examination.
Career Opportunities and Progression
Having developed fundamental practical skills and a basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering concepts, employment opportunities exist in the field of Tool-making, Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering. You will also be encouraged to seek apprenticeships within the relevant industry.
