Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
This course allows you to further develop the skills gained on the Level 1 Diploma programme. It provides further practical and theoretical knowledge required to understand and apply the skills of bricklaying and follows the Foundation Modern Apprentice framework.
You will require a Level 1 qualification in Brickwork. Equivalent vocational experience or qualifications will also be considered.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
What will I study?
You will carry out practical tasks to gain knowledge and skills in the following areas: The underpinning knowledge in bricklaying and block laying; Erect and setting out basic structures; Feature brickwork; Erect and dismantle working platforms; Store resources ready for use and Contribute to safe and efficient working practices.
You will also complete Essential Skills at Level 2 in both Application of Number and Communications. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete a range of practical tasks, projects and written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence is produced. End of units on-line tests are also completed along with an external on-line examination which is undertaken towards the end of the course.
Career Opportunities and Progression
On successful completion of this qualification, learners may be able to progress onto a NVQ Level 2 programme as an apprentice or trainee to become a qualified tradesperson.
