This course has been designed for mature learners or those with a L1 Catering and Hospitality qualification for a career within an exciting customer focussed Hospitality and Catering profession.
You will benefit from a variety of activities designed to bring out the best of your potential, and enable you to use your skills and knowledge to progress to a L3 Hospitality and Catering qualification. Within this programme you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate Essential Skills Wales and Customer Service.
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including English and Maths or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification including Essential Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level 1, or extensive experience.
You will be invited to attend an interview. During this interview you will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. and carry out a course presentation.
You will be required to have the relevant uniform and equipment, a full uniform list will be provided.
What will I study?
You will study units that reflect the needs of the Catering profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector you will study; Aspects of hospitality & catering, Employment Standards, Health & Safety, Customer Service , Essential Skills in Communication & Application of Number and Information Technology.
The course contains both theory and practical Hospitality & catering based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment.
The Welsh Baccalaureate will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales 'fits in' with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
You will also be required to undertake 25 hours’ of work placement; this is a mandatory element of the programme.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.
Career Opportunities and Progression
As a result of successfully completing this programme you may decide to enter employment as a commis chef or waiter. If you decide to progress onto the Level 3 Professional Cookery programme, which is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry.
