Purchase of Materials and/or Kit is required for this course (Studio Fees - £100). Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.

Course Outline

This course aims to expose you to working techniques used within the media industry, and develop and expand your portfolio of skills in hair, make-up and special effects for TV and Film.

The strong links that have been forged within industry have ensured that the skills students acquire within the classroom can be further built on with relevant work placements. The fast expanding media industry in South Wales provides students with a range of opportunities to experience placements in establishments such as the BBC, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as well as independent film companies. The skills and experience you gain will equip you with the necessary expertise to enter a career within the industry.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of 2 years at Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area is required.

What will I study?

You will develop industry specific skills such as;

• Make-up application for television and film • Period hair styling • Hair lace wig dressing and application • Special effects with a range of casting and moulding techniques • Airbrushing techniques

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through completion of assignment based coursework and practical work.

Career Opportunities and Progression

On successful completion you will be equipped to work in Creative Industries, either freelance or employed within the hair and make-up teams for production companies involved in TV/film or live arts. On successful completion of this course you will be receive a University of South Wales award.
