With growing opportunities for employment in the Creative Sector in Wales, there has been an increase in demand for learners with specific technical production skills to meet local employer and industry needs in television, film and events. The new RSL Creative and Performing Arts course not only allows for the delivery of a performing and creating pathway (as in traditional Performing Arts) but also that of a technical production/business pathway
This course is aimed at those learners who wish to pursue a technical production/business route into the Creative Arts.
You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English and Maths or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at merit grade in a creative or IT related subject. You will be invited to attend an interview
You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
What will I study?
The course focuses on developing skills and knowledge based on industry practices across a broad spectrum of technical production and business related units, such as:
Planning For a Career in the Perfoming and Creative Arts, Set Construction, Costume Design
Lighting Technician Skills, Sound Technician Skills, Wardrobe and Dressing, Backstage/On Set Safety, Set Management
Film Direction, Film Editing, Make up and Prosthetics, Hair and Wig Styling.
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed based on the specific requirements of specifications distributed by the awarding body and includes a combination of practical, project based, hands-on assessment and written research, evaluation and reflection. Projects will endeavour to revolve around professional performances and industry shows/events. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated.
