Course Outline

The course is accredited by Agored Cymru, and learners will achieve between 10 and 12 credits at Level 3.

Entry requirements

All you need is to have completed the Intermediate 2 (Year 6) course (or equivalent), and a continuing enthusiasm for learning (and practising!) Welsh.

What will I study?

This course is designed for people who are relatively fluent in Welsh. The main emphasis is still on speaking but you will also build on your writing, reading and listening skills.

By the end of the level you will feel more comfortable holding a conversation about both every day and slightly more abstract topics, e.g. aspects of Welsh culture, expressing opinions, negotiating and discussing, and will be able to read and write with a greater degree of accuracy and range.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be undertaken in class through tutor- observation of your oral, written and listening skills. It is an informal way of learning, with no exams, and involving pair/group work with your class-colleagues as well as interaction with your tutor.

Career Opportunities and Progression

On successful completion of the course you will be able to progress on to our Welsh Advanced 2 (Year 8) course. In terms of career opportunities, this level of Welsh is considered very favourably by most employers in Wales. After 6 years of learning, you will be at a good level of conversational fluency, and will have developed greater reading and writing skills too, thus increasing your employability. Welsh language skills are also useful if your children/grand-children are attending Welsh-medium school and you want to keep up with them/help them with their homework!
