GCSE English is for anyone who wants to improve their written and oral English skills. As communication, both written and oral, play such a huge role in today’s society, GCSE English is essential to help you pursue your job opportunities. No matter what the profession, job opportunities will always favour candidates who can speak clearly and fluently, and convey their thoughts convincingly in writing.
A minimum D grade at GCSE.
What will I study?
During the course you will study:
• Speaking and listening skills
• Reading and analysing various texts
• Creating writing – narrative writing and descriptive writing
• Transactional writing – including letters, reports, article, leaflets and speeches
• Exam techniques
How will I be assessed?
Controlled assessment, including oral skills, will account for 40% of your final mark.
Controlled assessments are carried out in class under exam conditions. There will be two examinations at the end of the academic year accounting for 60% of the mark. You will also be assessed throughout the year to monitor your progress.
Career Opportunities and Progression
GCSE English is an extremely useful qualification and is a basic requirement for many courses of study. For teachers at primary or secondary schools, grade B GCSE English is a compulsory requirement.
