This subject is part of the full time A level Programme. To apply for this subject you need to apply for the A Level or Combined Programme A Level Programme - You will need to choose 3 or 4 AS Levels to study the A Level Programme Combined Programme - You will need to choose 1 or 2 AS Levels combined with a vocational option. Vocational options include: Applied Science, IT, Business, Criminology, Law, Sports and Exercise Sciences, or Health and Social Care.

Course Outline

This course will help you to acquire and apply your knowledge and understanding of the world at a range of scales. Investigate a balanced view of physical and human processes, their interactions and outcomes over space and time in differing places and environments.

Entry requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including Geography at Higher Level and English. GCSE Grade C in Maths is preferable.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

What will I study?

The AS course is examined via the G1 and G2 exams which consist of the following topics: G1; Investigating hydrological change (rivers), Investigating climatic change and Investigating tectonic change. G2; Investigating population change and Investigating settlement change in MEDCs

It also includes two fieldwork investigations that will be examined at the end of both exams.

The A Level course would in addition to the AS examine the G3 and G4 exams which consist of the following topics: G3; An essay based paper examining your knowledge and understanding of both ‘Globalisation’ and ‘Coastal landforms and their management’. An individual fieldwork investigation which will be examined. G4; Synoptic style exam on the sustainability of food, water, energy and cities.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed 100% by examination.

Career Opportunities and Progression

On successful completion of this course many learners apply to and are offered places at university to study a variety of subjects which have been introduced at A Level, in more depth at degree level. Geography develops a particularly wide range of skills relevant to employment such as decision making, problem solving, working with others, handling data and report writing.
