Course Outline

Take the opportunity to consider life's most important questions and learn to think critically. What is the point of human life? How should we live? What happens after death? What is the influence of religion upon society? Study what different thinkers have said, and consider how religious themes are portrayed in the media.

Religious Studies is open both to those with a religious belief and to those with none.

Entry requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including English Language and grade C in Religious Studies (Full and Short Course)

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

What will I study?

The AS course allows you to look at religion in contemporary society including the study of medical and environmental issues as well as looking at the religious response to secularisation.

Study what religious belief is and what it means to the individual. Even examine how religious themes are portrayed in the media, particularly soaps such as EastEnders and programmes such as the Simpsons.

At A2 level you will study Religious Ethics, Religion and Human Experience. There is a good deal of discussion and research, use of IT and the Internet, essay writing, field trips and exam practice.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by 100% examination.

Career Opportunities and Progression

On successful completion of this course many learners apply to and are offered places at university to study RS, Theology or Philosophy but it is also a good background for a vast range of other degree courses and jobs.
