Course Outline

This top-up degree builds on the practical and theoretical skills gained in the foundation degree and allows those in the sector to gain an honours degree.

Entry requirements

You need to have successfully completed the Foundation Degree Early Years Care & Education or Foundation Degree Learning Support. Additionally, it would be beneficial to be employed professionally or voluntarily in a childcare or education setting although this is not a requirement.

Enhanced DBS check will be required.

What will I study?

You will study a range of modules which may include: Leadership and Management, Working with Multi-agency Teams, Learning and Teaching.

Throughout the course you will be encouraged to reflect on practice and develop on going links between the integration of theory into practice and planning for future development.

How will I be assessed?

Work based learning is central to the course and this will be an integral element of the academic learning experience. A variety of assessment approaches may be used, including written assignments, a case study, projects/presentations, oral debate and a longitudinal professional practice portfolio. You will also be required to conduct an independent project.

Career Opportunities and Progression

From the BA you could progress to postgraduate or Masters level study. Career paths typically include those in education, health and social care, with graduates working in schools, nurseries, children’s charities and integrated children’s centres. Increasingly graduates are finding employment in newly created initiatives, such as Flying Start as well as in private sector projects.
