If you are interested in studying to degree level, this course covers English Literature, Creative Writing and History. The course enables you to study in depth all three areas, and teaches you valuable transferable skills for the workplace.
In one of the modules in the second year you will be encouraged to put some of your new-found skills into practice through a work placement in a related field. A valuable qualification in its own right, the foundation degree is also an ideal stepping stone for further study of English, Creative Writing or History.
You will require 1 A level, Access Diploma or equivalent qualifications plus GCSE grade A*- C in English equivalent. Learners without traditional qualifications will be assessed on their merits and experience.
What will I study?
You will have a thorough introduction to English and to History. You will study English Literature as well as practical modules in creative and professional writing.
You will conduct a research project in local history as well as key events in world history, for example, the Russian revolution. In addition one module will support your skills of academic writing and research.
How will I be assessed?
You will be taught through lectures, seminars and tutorials. Assessment will be via essays, reports, reviews, portfolios of work, presentations and exams.

This qualification gives you transferable skills that will relate to a huge variety of professions – from teaching to social work to journalism. If you would like to progress and further your study, you can join the final year of a related degree course at the University of South Wales. Choose from Creative and Professional Writing, English, English and History, English Literature or History. On successful completion of this course you will be receive a University of South Wales award.
