With growing opportunities for employment in Production Arts in Wales, there has been an increase in demand for learners with specific technical skills to meet local employer and industry needs. This course will focus on servicing those needs by developing your knowledge and skills in a number of specific areas of Production Arts including prop/costume making, model making, lighting and sound, CGI digital construction and set design/construction.
With a purpose built theatre located at our Rhondda Campus and maker workshops at our Nantgarw campus the course aims to provide you with the skills of an industry professional to get hired, empowering you to be successful in your chosen field.
You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English/Welsh and Maths or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit grade in a creative or IT related subject. You will be invited to attend an interview.
You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
What will I study?
The course focuses on developing skills and knowledge based on industry practices across a broad spectrum of technical production and contextual related units that develop skills such as
Sculpture, armature construction, moulding and casting, fabric manipulation, sound engineering and lighting design, laser cutting, 3D printing, from concept to creation.
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed based on the specific requirements of specifications distributed by the awarding body and includes a combination of practical, project based, hands-on assessment and written research, evaluation and reflection. Projects will have a industry focus delivered by members of staff with cutting edge professional experience and skills. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated.

The expansion of Coleg y Cymoedd's Production Arts provision will further enhance progression opportunities onto our specialist Higher Education courses, including: BA (Hons) TV & Film: Props; BA (Hons) TV & Film: Hair, Make-up and Special Effects; HND in Creative Production Arts (Makeup and Props), and FD & BA (Hons) Costume Construction for Screen & Stage, all franchised via the University of South Wales.
