How to Apply

We are delighted that you are considering joining Coleg y Cymoedd as an International learner and will help you with the application process to  ensure that you apply for the best course to suit your skills and abilities.

Applying at Coleg y Cymoedd

Firstly, you will need to choose your course.  Our Course Guides, and Course Search can help you in this.

To apply for a Further Education course at the College, you will need to submit an International course application form.  Available in Word or PDF version. (Please note that as an international learner, you must study a full time level 3 course or above).

Notes on Applying at Coleg y Cymoedd

Information will be required from the applicant in enough detail to satisfy College staff that the applicant meets to course entry requirements. The applicant will be expected to supply copies of any certificates supporting his/her application together with proof of his/her level of English. The College requires a minimum level of IELTS 4.5 (or equivalent).

On receipt of the application and supporting documentation the applicant will undertake an interview via Skype/ telephone call. This will be undertaken by the International Officer and the course tutor of the course applied for. (The personal statement on the application form will assess the applicants written level of English).

If the applicant is accepted onto the course then the International Officer will send a ‘Confirmation of Study’ letter. The applicant is then expected to pay a 50% deposit of the tuition fees if he/she accepts the offer.

On receipt of the deposit the applicant will be issued with a CAS which will allow him/her to apply for a study visa under Tier 4 through the British Embassy in their home country.

If the applicant is successful in obtaining a visa then it expected that the outstanding 50% of tuition fees are payable upon arrival.

If the applicant is unsuccessful with the visa application then the College will refund all monies paid minus £100 administration fee.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements vary depending on the level of your course.

If you have existing qualifications from a country outside the UK and you are not sure which level is right for you please contact UK NARIC, a national agency who can provide information, advice and expert guidance on qualifications worldwide.

Working on behalf of the UK Government they can provide a range of advisory services which compare international qualifications.

Non-EU Resident

If you require a visa to remain in the EU then the College will regard you as an ‘international’ student and the following fees apply:-

A Levels (AS/A2) up to 4 subjects   £5500  

The prices quoted are in GBP, British pounds. Course fees are provided as a guide only and you may be required to pay additional exam and resource fees depending on your course.

All fees are based on a per year cost (annual) and are exclusive of exams and resources unless otherwise stated.


EU Resident

If you are ordinarily resident in the EU or the EEA you will usually have ‘home’ student status. Evidence of your status will need to be provided. No course fees apply.

Support for International Learners

Coleg y Cymoedd aims to offer all our learners the best support possible to help them succeed in their learning.

Before you enrol we will make sure the course you are offered is suitable for you. We can also help with your application, visas and accommodation.

When you arrive you will be introduced to the international office. Staff at the College will be able to talk to you about all aspects of Student Life

During your course, our Learner Services and Support team can help with any difficulties or issues you may have. We can also offer additional English language support throughout your studies.

Visa and Immigration

Coleg y Cymoedd is a government-approved ‘Highly Trusted Sponsor’. This means we can offer Level 3 and above to international learners.

Most international learners will need to apply to the for a visa before coming to the UK and we can help you to do this. 

The immigration system in the UK is regularly changing, so it is important for you to understand the system. For more details visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.


Coleg y Cymoedd is able to offer International learners accommodation through our Host Family scheme.

If you wish to stay with a host family, please contact the International Office.
