Aberdare Campus

Level 1 Introductory course to Information Technology  

You will study a range of units some of which include: developing digital information using IT, solving technical problems, creating a website, creating a computer program, researching a topic, working with others and using digital communication technologies.

Level 2 Computing and Creative IT

You will study units such as: Online World, Technology Systems, Digital Portfolio, Creating Digital Graphics, Mobile App Development, Database Development, Automated Computer Systems, Software Development, Multimedia Products Development, Computing in the Workplace and Computational Thinking.

Level 3 Games Development and IT

Over the course of two years you will study a range of modules relating to various aspects of games development, this will include topics such as:

• Computer Games Development • Digital 2D and 3D Graphics • Computer Programming • Website Development • Mobile App Development • Project Management • Social Media.  You will also cover some more general IT topics to include: • IT Systems • Systems to Manage Information • Cyber Security

Level 4/5 Foundation Degree Games Art and Design (franchise course from University of South Wales (USW))

The course aims to help students to develop a range of skills, knowledge and understanding that will prepare them for employment in the computer games sector, creative industries and/or further academic study.  Learners will explore the game creation process from a number of perspectives, such as asset production, game mechanics, aesthetics and engines. This is complemented by, theoretical, cultural and sociological discourse.

Level 2 Computing and Creative IT

Ystrad Mynach Campus

Level 3 Enhanced IT Practitioners (EIP) - Includes Work Placement

The course is for people who are interested or wish to pursue a career to become an IT Technician.  The Enhanced IT Practitioners course gives you a chance to study full time 5 days a week.   You will study a range of subjects from 2 qualifications:  Level 3 Diploma System Support and Level 3 Diploma in Systems and Principles for IT Professionals.   You will also take part in 25 days work placement.   

Level 4/5 Foundation Degree Information Communication Technology (franchise course from University of South Wales (USW))

Foundation Degree ICT is a Level 4/5 University of South Wales franchise course. The course is a University of South Wales qualification studied at the college. You graduate with your cap and gown at the university and are awarded your foundation degree from USW. Mode of study: 3 Days a week year 1 1 Day a week year 2 (Work Placement for other days) Many placements have led directly to full time employment.

Classes are relaxed and informal as you are adults studying a university course. As you will technically be a USW student you follow University term dates. Meaning you start late September and finish in May. Classrooms are well equipped modern computing suites. You have access to the latest versions of industry standard software (e.g., Adobe photoshop, animate, dream weaver and the full suite of Microsoft office 365, Visual Basic and QGIS).
