Business and sport learners at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Nantgarw campus were given an insight into the successful career of football entrepreneur and businessman David Dein.
The inspirational speaker attended the college through the Speakers for Schools charity, which gives opportunities for colleges to host talks from leading figures from a wide range of backgrounds, free of charge.
David is an eminent figure in the footballing world, having played a central role in the creation of the Premier League in 1992 and also his involvement with the Arsenal ladies Football team which has consistently been the best in the land. His wealth of experience meant that he was able to share the huge variety of sectors and job roles related to sport.
Tutor Kim Purnell said “The learners were fascinated with David’s talk and engaged with his discussion on footballing events; he also spoke about success and entrepreneurship. He made the learners feel relaxed and confident to ask their questions – he is certainly inspirational and I’m sure someone who the learners will rememberâ€.
We welcomed the opportunity to engage with Speakers for Schools and value the influence such activities have on our learners, helping them to become more confident, determined and ambitious. It has also been of value to our staff who also participated in the eventâ€.
Stephen Stecker (20) from Pontypridd enjoyed the talk stating “ I enjoy football and was looking forward to David’s talk as he such a well- known figure, especially at Arsenal as the club has, and continues to achieve success. But he also spoke about ambition and drive and ‘going for it’ if you really want something – he was excellentâ€.
The S4S speakers are public leaders, experts and influential individuals who donate their time and expertise each year to give talks in a school or college, to inspire the learners with invaluable insights, perspectives and interesting information.
