Coleg y Cymoedd consults on proposed Welsh Language Scheme

Four learners studying on the Professional Cookery course at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach campus travelled to North Wales to compete in this year’s Welsh Culinary Skills Championships.

The team, Bethan Stephens, Paige Ellis, Ieuan Hall and Liam Dare showed off their skills against learners from other colleges across Wales, to scoop a selection of medals.

The learners were tested in the kitchen and restaurant, demonstrating their skills from ‘cutting vegetables’ to ‘table laying’; which included napkin folding.

Hospitality & Catering Tutor Ian Presgrave said “This competition provides good experience for the learner as it tests their stamina to work under pressure; preparing them for work in a real kitchen or restaurant. I know they were all nervous working in front of people and against the clock but they done well and received excellent feedback from some of Wales’ prominent chefs who judged the competition. I was extremely proud of the Team”.
