You will complete two Pearson Level 3 Btec units namely, Surveying in Construction and Site Engineering for Construction which are integrated into one course:
Part 1: evaluation of surveying equipment. This includes: optical & Digital levels, Lasers, Total Stations and GNSS. Practical exercises will include field checks and techniques to minimise errors. Part 2: Establishment of Control Networks. This will include practical exercises in levelling and traversing. Part 3: Site surveys and Digital Terrain Models (DTM). This will include using survey software to produce site surveys and evaluation of DTMs. Part 4: Setting using co-ordinates: The will include techniques for different standards of accuracy. Practical exercises will include the setting out of buildings, drainage, road centre-lines and batter rails for earthworks.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English, Maths and Science or another Level 2 qualification. NB: Learners should have an understanding of trigonometry and basic mathematical principles before starting this course.
Learners will complete a range of practical tasks and written assignments. Each module is graded with an overall Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The course provides underpinning knowledge for the following. • Pearson Btec National Diploma in Construction & Built Environment • HNC/D and degree programmes in Civil Engineering and Construction. • Proqual Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Surveying.
