Level 2 Digital and IT Skills

Information technology has become very important for most organisations and industries. Even small-scale industries today feel the need for IT professionals. The number of IT careers has increased in the recent years and information technology tools are now used almost everywhere. The need of information technology has increased rapidly as most organisations today feel the need to plan and control techniques which are in comparison to the larger organisations and growth has become essential for most sectors. IT professionals can help an organisation in a number of ways and help them to develop new programs and technologies which can help the organisations to grow and achieve success.


This course provides skills and knowledge that could lead to further education in IT or related areas, as well as underpinning other educational sectors to higher levels of competency for those required to work independently or supervise others. For those moving into their first job role the ITQ can provide the confidence to work effectively with ICT and deal with tasks that are straightforward or routine. This qualification could help you work towards a job or underpin positions such as: • Application support assistant • Application support officer • Data entry clerk • Business administrator • Personal assistant • And many more! A Level 2 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities that are at times non-routine or unfamiliar, they will be able to devise solutions to use IT tools to improve productivity.

What Will I Learn?

The skills learnt on this course are the intermediate blocks to many different career options and can lead to the next level course within the college.


You will study software applications within the Microsoft Office 365 environment. This would include, but not be limited to: • Collaboration and productivity • Using the internet • Design Software • Multimedia products • IT Presentations • IT Communications (including social media platforms) • IT Security Fundamentals Learners progressing from our Level 1 course will build upon the foundation skills learnt already and enhance their knowledge and skills with Digital Applications. All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.

Entry Requirements

You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including Maths/Numeracy and English Language/Welsh (First Language) or a Level 1 in a related vocational subject.


You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish support required. At Coleg y Cymoedd we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your assessments. The better your grades the more options you will have and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.

Assessment

All learning is undertaken within our modern and well-equipped IT classrooms. You will undertake an assessment in each unit which can be generated through a range of activities, including assignments, role play, practical performance and verbal presentations. You will be expected to work to deadlines and maintain your course files/portfolios to the required standards. With guidance a learner will be able to operate information and communication software or hardware with knowledge and understanding at the relevant level in a variety of topics they undertake.

Career Progression

Upon successful completion of the course, you may be eligible to progress to the Level 3 Digital Applications (IT).
