Over the course of two years you will study a range of modules relating to various aspects of games development, this will include topics such as:
• Computer Games Development • Digital 2D and 3D Graphics • Computer Programming • Website Development • Mobile App Development • Project Management • Social Media You will also cover some more general IT topics to include: • IT Systems • Systems to Manage Information • Cyber Security
You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths/Numeracy, English Language/Welsh (First Language) or a Level 2 qualification with the appropriate selection of units.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification encompasses various assessment styles which will provide you with the some of the skills necessary for future employment or higher education. In most cases assessment will be vocational, based on the gaming industry, this will include both practical and written tasks. This course will also include four externally assessed exams/tasks in total, spread across the duration of the course.
Completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Development and IT qualifies for UCAS points (equivalent to 3 A’ levels), giving students a wide choice of progression options. You can go on to university, an apprenticeship or employment and continue to develop your IT career. There is also the opportunity to continue your study within Coleg Y Cymoedd, where we offer Foundation Degrees in both ICT and Games Technology (franchised from USW).
