Level 3 AAT Accountancy

This is an intensive course which will introduce and develop your skills in financial accounting administration, the preparation of management accounting calculations, as well as introducing payroll and taxation calculation. The objective of the course is to provide a supportive and friendly environment to enable you to develop your potential and to prepare you for progression to either a Level 4 in Accountancy, university or employment. The course consists of Level 3 Diploma in Accountancy and Essential Skills in Digital Literacy or Employability.


Although most fees for the full-time course are paid for by the Coleg y Cymoedd – Learners will be expected to fund the following: Osborne Books Tutorial textbooks x4: current cost £15 - £23 each* Examination resit fees: current cost £61 each * some textbooks are available from the Learning Resource Centre on a first come basis Costs correct at the time of publication.

What Will I Learn?

The Diploma in Accounting comprises: Business Awareness, which looks at the business environment, management, ethics and sustainability; Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements, dealing with aspects of the preparation of financial accounts for sole traders and partnerships; Management Accounting Techniques, which looks at standard methods of preparing and presenting management accounting data; and Tax processes for business looking at VAT returns and PAYE payroll.


The accounting qualification is supported with the study of essential skills in either digital literacy or employability, vital to your next step in your accounting career.

Entry Requirements

You will require a Level 2 Certificate in Accounting to at least a Merit grade. Alternatively, applicants without the Level 2 will need to provide evidence of a thorough understanding of bookkeeping principles gained through prior study or work experience and 5 GCSE's at grades A-C including English Language/Welsh and will need to attend an interview with an AAT tutor.


You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. At Coleg y Cymoedd we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your assessments. The better your grades the more options you will have and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher-level course.

Assessment

All learning areas of this qualification are assessed using AAT designed Computer Based Assessments. Essential Skills assessments are time constrained in-class assessments under exam conditions and/or computer-based assessments.

Career Progression

Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting will allow you to progress onto the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting. Alternatively, the level 3 Diploma in Accounting carries UCAS points that can be use for entry to a university course.
