The course builds a portfolio of drawing & painting skills and working in an experimental way with a range of media and techniques in both 2 & 3 dimensions. You will gain an excellent grounding in traditional techniques as well as computer technology. You will be encouraged to explore and develop art and design ideas and produce effective outcomes. You will work through set briefs to complete units of general Art and Design culminating in a project to lead on to 3 pathways offered within the progression of this 1 year course
Graphic Arts: This covers graphic design, photography, illustration, painting and printmaking. Fashion & Textiles: which covers pattern cutting and garment construction techniques for fashion and costume, surface pattern, fabric manipulation, paper & printmaking in textiles; illustration and design. 3D Design: this includes furniture, product, spatial & theatre design, graphic presentation techniques and design craft techniques
5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English/Welsh, Maths/Numeracy and Art or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma/OCR Level 2 Diploma at merit grade or above in a creative related subject.
You will be invited to attend an interview with a portfolio of your art/ design work. You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
There is continuous assessment throughout the course for practical and written assignments. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. On successful completion of this qualification you will receive an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction, converting into UCAS points ready for your pathway application to Higher Education.
On successful completion of this course you may be able to progress onto the extended Level 3 in Art and Design.
