Geography AS and A2

The AS and A-Level Geography course content focuses on the dynamic nature of physical systems and processes in the real world, and on the interactions and connectivity between people, places and environments in both time and space.

The core themes are divided into two separate physical and human themes. The non-core content draws on both physical and human geography and also people-environment interactions. All themes integrate geographical skills, scale and specialised concepts. Fieldwork outside of the classroom is an important element of the course at both AS and A-Level.

What Will I Learn?

The AS course is examined via the Unit 1 and Unit 2 exams. Unit 1 studies ‘Changing physical landscapes’ via the topics of Coasts and Tectonics.

Unit 2 studies ‘Changing places’ via the topics of Population and Settlement. Fieldwork will also be examined in this second unit. The A-Level course is examined via the Unit 3 and Unit 4 exams plus an independent fieldwork study (Unit 5) which is non-examined. Unit 3 studies ‘Global systems and global governance’ via the topics of ‘Water and carbon cycles’, ‘Oceans’, ‘Population migration’ and ‘21st Century challenges. Unit 4 studies ‘Contemporary themes’ via the topics of ‘Tectonic hazards’ and ‘Economic challenges in India’
