Religious Studies AS and A2

Take the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of religious thought and its contribution to individuals, communities and societies. Be able to adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of religion, philosophy of religion and ethics. Learn how to develop your own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of your study.

What Will I Learn?

AS and A2 Religious Studies are designed to enable you to develop your interest in, and enthusiasm for, a study of religion and its place in the wider world.


The AS specification contains two units which include a wide range of topics for consideration, including an in-depth and broad study of one of the six major world religions, religion and ethics and philosophy of religion. The A level specification allows learners to continue their systematic study of a world religion, religion and ethics, and philosophy of religion.

Entry Requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C. A grade B in English Language would be desirable.


You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed by 100% examination.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this course many learners apply to and are offered places at university to study Religious Studies, Theology or Philosophy but it is also a good background for a vast range of other degree courses and jobs.

A Level Programme - You will need to choose 3 or 4 AS Levels to study the A Level Programme

Combined Programme - You will need to choose 1 or 2 AS Levels combined with a vocational option. Vocational options include: Applied Science, IT, Business, Criminology, Law, Sports and Exercise Sciences, or Health and Social Care.
