The RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners is designed to give learners the skills to become a DIY musician and develop an expertise in Music Performance, Music Production, Sound Engineering, Music Video Production, Composing, Remixing and Music Business. The course is made up of a number of compulsory core units, and specialist units, whilst allowing learners the flexibility to pursue their own choice of four independent pathways – Performance, Technology, Business and Composition.
On the course learners will be given the opportunity to perform at professional music venues, the chance to represent the College nationally at the annual Skills Wales competitions where we have been extremely successful on many occasions. You will also be given the opportunity to attend guest workshops and Q&As from some of the top industry professionals such Alan McGee (CEO Creation Records – signed Oasis, Primal Scream, Super Furry Animals and has Managed Happy Mondays, Libertines, Cast and many others.) Grammy Nominated Romesh Dodangoda (Owner of Long Wave studios and has produced highly acclaimed bands such Bring Me The Horizon, Motorhead, Funeral For A Friend, Nova Twins, Twin Atlantic, Kids in Glass Houses and many more.)
You will be able to gain the musical skills and confidence you need, within a supportive, creative environment guided by well-qualified, committed staff with over 20 years professional industry experience who have been approved to deliver the course. Provided at our Nantgarw Campus, learners will utilise a fully equipped, State of the Art, Recording Studio’s, Apple Mac Suite and numerous allowing access to the most up to date facilities and resources. This course is equivalent to one and a half A Levels with the opportunity to progress to the Extended Diploma which will give you the extra one and a half A levels which will be enough to attend any university after college. What Will I Learn?
Learners will study for an RSL L3 Subsidiary Diploma For Music Practitioners over one year with the option to top-up to an RSL L3 Extended Diploma for Music Practitioners in year two. The full Extended Diploma will give learners a qualification that is equivalent to three A-levels and is recognised by every University in the United Kingdom.
The first year of the course features six units that cover a wide spectrum of available employment opportunities in the music industry and those units are: • Music Dissertation

• Music Rehearsal Skills
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English or Welsh first Language), or equivalent level 2 qualifications
There is an audition as part of the interview process for this course.
Assessment
You will continuously be assessed throughout the course via practical and written assignments. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. On successful completion of this qualification an overall grade is given of Pass, Merit or Distinction.
