You will study three compulsory units forthe AS level including: Oral: Film and Multimedia in Wales and the Hedd Wyn as well as a piece of Written coursework of between 2,000 and 3,000 words. You also cover the Use of Language and Poetry - study of grammar and seven poems.
During the second year (A2), three compulsory units are studied including the play 'Siwan. A study of ‘Multimedia in Wales’ as well as Short stories and formal letter writing giving opinions on contemporary themes. The Use of language and Poetry involves the study of grammar and four poetry themes.
You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including a Grade B or above in Welsh higher tier or substantial oral fluency. This is AS Welsh Second Language. Students who have GCSE Welsh (First Language) cannot take this course.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
You will be assessed by a mixture of examination, coursework and oral/aural.
On successful completion of this course you may progress onto study Welsh at Higher Education; employment in the Civil Service, media in Wales, health and care services, Police.

A Level Programme - You will need to choose 3 or 4 AS Levels to study the A Level Programme
Combined Programme - You will need to choose 1 or 2 AS Levels combined with a vocational option. Vocational options include: Applied Science, IT, Business, Criminology, Law, Sports and Exercise Sciences, or Health and Social Care.
