Foundation in Construction and Building Services Engineering. Carpentry & Joinery, (plus an additional trade)

This course has been designed for those with no previous experience of carpentry & joinery to provide a foundation for a career within the construction industry. You will benefit from a variety of activities designed to bring out the best of your potential, and enable you to use your skills and knowledge to gain employment in the industry.


The qualification recognises your job knowledge and tests the skills you have acquired. Please note - you will be studying a second trade as part of this course

What Will I Learn?

You will study units that reflect the needs of the construction industry, while further preparing you for a career within this sector. You will also develop Essential Skills in Communication and Application of Number.


The units you may study include: Health, safety & welfare in construction and associated industries, Knowledge of technical information, quantities & communication with others, Knowledge of construction technology, Produce woodworking joints, Maintain & use carpentry & joinery hand tools and Prepare & use carpentry & joinery portable power tools.

Entry Requirements

You will require 3 GCSEs at grade A*- E which must include English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or successful completion of Construction Skills Entry 3 and working at Entry 3 in Literacy and Numeracy.


You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a range of methods, which include practical and job knowledge unit tests, an external examination and Essential Skills portfolios.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress the Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. If you gain employment/apprenticeship you will be eligible to study an NVQ 2 in Carpentry.

Further Notes

Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
