This is a practical course with underpinning knowledge which will teach you the basic plumbing skills and key plumbing principles such as:
• The science of plumbing,
• Bending,
• Jointing,
• Fixing copper and low carbon steel pipe.
• Basic materials,
• Theoretical concepts
• Health and safety.
You will also look at hot and cold water systems as well as above ground drainage.
As part of the course, you will be required to complete Essential Skills at level 1 in ICT, Communications and Application of Number.
You will require 2 GCSE's A*-E (must include English/Welsh) and 1 GCSE A*-D in Maths/Numeracy
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
Assessments will be on-going in the form of direct observation of practical assessments, plus multiple choice questions on–line throughout the year. There will be a final on-line multiple choice test at the end of the course.
On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the Plumbing Level 2 Diploma.
Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
