Level 1 in Beauty Therapy

The Beauty Therapy qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills through the following units; improving the appearance of the hands and feet with basic manicure and pedicure services. Cleansing, toning and moisturising, providing aftercare advice, and basic day make-up application. To further enhance your skills you will also cover artistic and creative elements on your course such as nail art, themed face painting, photographic make-up and create a hair and beauty image.

To underpin this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety and you will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the skills required to support you in the beauty therapy industry such as salon reception duties, and working with others.

The purpose of this qualification is develop your skills in beauty therapy and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own basic services and to assist others in the salon. You will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, Essential skills Wales and an Award in Work Experience Qualification

What Will I Learn?

You will study; Units that reflect the needs of the Beauty Therapy profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector. Primary aspects of Beauty Therapy to enable you to assist the Therapist, Employment Standard,. Health & Safety, Customer Service. You will also study Essential Skills in Communication & Application of Number and Information Technology.

The course contains both theory and practical Beauty Therapy based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment.
The Welsh Baccalaureate- you will explore a wide range of areas including A project and skills challenge certificate

You will also be required to undertake 25 hours’ of work placement; this is a mandatory element of the programme.

Entry Requirements

You will require 3 GCSEs at grades A*- E including English Language/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a foundation course qualification including Essential Skills at Entry Level 3, as well as a reference from a previous tutor. You may also be asked to complete a practical skills task.

We are looking for learners with a passion for the Beauty industry. You will be invited to participate in pre-course guidance activities which will include a course presentation. Relevant uniform and equipment is needed for this course; a full list will be provided. You will be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work on paying clients, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external online examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this programme you will be able to progress to a Level 2 Beauty Therapy programme. Level 2/3 is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry.
