Level 1 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance

This course enables you to build your knowledge of Motor Vehicle Technology using a combination of theory and practical lessons. All learning takes place in our modern, well-equipped workshop on site facilitated by qualified and highly experienced lecturers


This engaging and motivating Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) course is generally aimed at learners who have a keen interest to learn about maintenance of Light Vehicles and the different roles that are available in the retail motor industry. All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.

What Will I Learn?

You will be studying for a vocational qualification designed to enable you to enter one of the various branches of the retail motor industry.


The course compromises: Vehicle Practical, Theory taught using a variety of methods, e.g. lectures, tutorials and investigations. Motor Vehicle related industrial/educational visits may be incorporated into the programme and Learners will use some of the newest, state of the art equipment to aid in their learning process. You will study several units which involve removing, testing and replacing units and components/service items. The practical experience alone is invaluable to prospective employers.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at grade E or above (including Maths and English or Welsh first Language), or equivalent Entry level qualifications

Assessment

Assessment will be undertaken through online knowledge tests and a workshop-based portfolio, in which you record details of work assessments carried out.

Career Progression

After successfully completing this course you will be able to apply for various positions within the retail motor industry. It can also be the first step to eventually progress to study of a Higher National Diploma or a Degree in Vehicle subjects such as Motorsport engineering. Progression is offered within Ystrad Mynach Campus, in a new purpose built facility where you can apply to study for a Level 2 qualification (subject to a theory and practical assessment).
