You will study 10 different units over the one-year course, gaining you a BTEC L1 Introductory Diploma in Performing Arts. The units aim to give you a sound knowledge of working successfully together, rehearsing and taking part in a variety of theatrical productions.
The course will aim to develop your practical skills in all areas of the Performing Arts sector; singing, dancing and acting. The course aims to develop your dance and movement skills, learning how to prepare for a performance and learn dance styles, such as Jazz and Tap. Alongside dance, you’ll have acting classes to further develop your performance skills. You’ll take part in 3 performances throughout the year, a devised piece of theatre, a Shakespeare performance and end the year with a Musical Theatre production. This practical course promises to give you an exciting introduction to the Performing Arts courses available at Coleg y Cymoedd.
3 GCSEs at grades A*- E including English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy, or an Entry-level vocational qualification at merit grade or above in a creative related subject including literacy and numeracy at E3.
You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy during the first few weeks to establish any support required.
You will be assessed at the end of each unit throughout the course and there are no formal examinations.
On successful completion and a personal tutor reference, this creative qualification will enable you to specialise in a Level 2 course of your choice within creative industries, or you will be able to transfer your personal and employability skills to the workplace. This course could form the foundation for many other vocational courses. It is possible to continue to progress through to Level 3 and degree level with successful completion at each stage.
