Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice and Theory - Welsh Language Pathway

This qualification is primarily for those working, or seeking to work, in regulated childcare settings with families and children under the age of 8 and/or NHS children’s services for those working with families and children aged 0–19 years.


If you are a Welsh speaker, we strongly encourage you to choose our Welsh Language Pathway. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and confidence in Welsh while gaining a recognised qualification. You will use Welsh in your studies and in your work placement, helping you support children and families bilingually – a highly valued skill in the childcare sector in Wales.


You will be invited to participate in pre-course guidance activities and will be required to attend a suitable work placement every week. A DBS check and a suitability for work placement form must also be completed.

What Will I Learn?

This qualification allows learners to develop the knowledge and skills required for employment and/or career progression in childcare or health settings. It combines both practice units that are assessed within the workplace, with, additional theoretical knowledge.

The practice element of this qualification mirrors that of the Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice qualification. The theoretical aspect provides learners with knowledge of issues related to children’s health, well-being and a broad understanding of health and childcare services.


The knowledge, understanding and skills a learner is required to achieve within this qualification build on the content of the Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Core qualification. The main focus is to develop your knowledge and experience in a childcare setting whilst learning the theory in college. Developing holistically to improve and consolidate your skills in a practical environment. You will also study GCSE English Language or Maths

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE’s A*-C including Maths, English Language /Welsh (First Language) & Science or a Level 2 qualification with the appropriate selection and grades of units. Learners with a D grade in English language can be considered upon interview.


For progressing Coleg y Cymoedd learners you will need a pass in L2 Diploma in Engineering Technologies and a merit grade in Unit 35 Applied Mathematics. Individual circumstances may also be taken into account upon interview.

Assessment

Assessment will take place in your work placement on your practical skills, and you will complete a multiple-choice question paper and an exam at college.

Career Progression

After successfully completing the Diploma you may be able to progress to the level 3 Childcare course or employment within the childcare sector.
