You will study units that reflect the needs of the Hairdressing profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector you will study;

Employment Standards, Health & Safety’, Customer Service, Essential Skills in Communication & Application of Number.
The course contains both theory and practical Hairdressing based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment
You will also be required to undertake 25+ hours’ of work placement; this is a mandatory element of the programme.
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including English Language/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification including Essential Skills at Level 1, as well as a reference from an employer and/or previous tutor. You may also be asked to complete a practical skills task.
We are looking for learners with a passion for the Hairdressing industry. You will be invited to participate in pre-course guidance activities which will include a course presentation. Relevant uniform and equipment is needed for this course; a full list will be provided. You will be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. You may be invited to demonstrate your practical skills and flair to ensure progression from L1 to L2 is the correct path for you and your career aspirations.
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.
On successful completion of this programme you may decide to enter employment as a junior stylist. If you decide to progress onto the Level 3 Hairdressing programme, which is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry; Colour Artist, Media Hairstylist, Cruise Liners Stylist, Salon Owner, Lecturer and Trainer/Assessor.
