This course has been designed for mature learners or those with a L1 Catering and Hospitality qualification for a career within an exciting customer focussed Hospitality and Catering profession.


You will benefit from a variety of activities designed to bring out the best of your potential, and enable you to use your skills and knowledge to progress to a L3 Hospitality and Catering qualification. Within this programme you will also study the Essential Skills Wales Customer Service and/or GCSEs.

What Will I Learn?

You will study units that reflect the needs of the Catering profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector you will study; Aspects of hospitality & catering, Employment Standards, Health & Safety and Customer Service.


The course contains both theory and practical Hospitality & catering based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment.

Entry Requirements

You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including English Language/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or relevant Essential Skills or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification or relevant Essential Skills as well as a reference from an employer and/or previous tutor. You may also be asked to complete a practical skills task.


We are looking for learners with a passion for the Hospitality and Catering industry. You will be invited to participate in pre-course guidance activities which will include a course presentation. Relevant uniform and equipment is needed for this course; a full list will be provided. You will be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. You may be invited to demonstrate your practical skills and flair to ensure progression from L1 to L2 is the correct path for you and your career aspirations.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. Assessment of Essential Skills is by an online confirmatory test and a written controlled task.

Career Progression

As a result of successfully completing this programme you may decide to enter employment as a commis chef or waiter. If you decide to progress onto the Level 3 Professional Cookery programme, which is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry.
