In year 1 you will gain an understanding of the underlying principles and practice of design and construction for low and medium rise buildings and structures.
You will examine the construction methods used in the construction of new buildings and their associated external works. As learners progress, they will investigate different career pathways for example, Architectural design, Quantity surveying, Site Management, Land Surveying, Civil engineering and Engineering surveying. Emphasis is placed on you gaining academic and employability skills: such as research skills, teamwork and presentation skills which play an important part of the course.
You will need 4 GCSEs at grades A*- B, including Maths and English.
You will also undertake a formal interview and initial assessment devised by the college in literacy and numeracy.

Learners should get a memory stick for use during the course as well as some drawing equipment that will be detailed during induction.
A pair of safety boots will be required for site visits.
While the library at the college does have computers with the Revit design software available for the students to use. Students may find it easier to have a PC (not Mac) at home with a min of I5 processor and 8Gb Ram so that they can download and practice computer design work at home. The Revit design software will be provided free to the students in September via a student account with Autodesk.
