Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health & Social Care: Principles and Contexts

As part of the Level 3 course, you will be undertaking 2 qualifications: • Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts: • A skills qualification in Digital literacy, Employability, Communication or Maths. The Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts is equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels, which if learners are successful in progressing onto the 2nd year of study can be topped up to 3 A-Level equivalents


The qualifications enable you to develop knowledge, skills and understanding within the context of health and social care services. As part of the course, you will be expected to study skills such as digital literacy, employability, application of number or communication. There will be work placement opportunities for learners to develop practical skills and put their college-based knowledge into practice.

What Will I Learn?

Topics on the qualification include the following current issues in relation to Health and Social Care in Wales:


• Principles of care and safe practice within outcome focused person-centred care • Factors affecting individuals’ growth and development across the lifespan and how these impacts on outcomes, care and support needs • Promoting the rights of individuals across the lifespan. • Supporting individuals at risk to achieve their desired outcomes • Work placement and sector engagement totalling 100 hours are also mandatory elements of the course You will also develop academic skills throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include Maths/Numeracy and English Language/Welsh. Alternative equivalent qualifications can be discussed at interview.


4 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include Maths and English and successful completion of the L2 Health and Social Care: Core (Adults, Children and Young People). GCSEs at Grade C or above to include Maths and English Language/Welsh. Alternative equivalent qualifications can be discussed at interview. A successful DBS check and application for the update service on the DBS check.

Assessment

To achieve this qualification, candidates must pass: • Three externally-set non-examination assessments that are marked in the centre that will be taken throughout the qualification. • One externally-set, externally-marked exam.

Career Progression

Successful completion of the qualification, including work placement and sector engagement totalling 100 hours, may enable learners to progress to: • The second year L3 Health and Social Care qualification - Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts. • The Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core (Adults, Children and Young People), for those learners looking to enter employment.

Learners attending Care and Childcare courses need to purchase a £11.00 polo shirt to wear at placement and to pay for a DBS check and the DBS update service.
