Level 3 Engineering: Electrical/Electronic Engineering

This course has been developed to provide learners with underpinning knowledge and related practical skills in electrical and electronic engineering, along with practical experience and expectations of the situations that they could face in an engineering job role.


The main qualification on this course is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ). It has been specifically designed for learners in full time education who are interested in pursuing a career in the engineering sector. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, including adults, who are interested in engineering technology and/or are considering a career change. On this course you will also study an NVQ unit in Performing Engineering Operations. All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.

What Will I Learn?

You will learn the following:


• Engineering and environmental health and safety • Engineering organisational efficiency and improvement • Electrical and electronic principles* • Digital electronics* • Assembling and Testing Electronic Circuits* (*Some optional units are subject to change)

Entry Requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs A*- C which should include Maths, English Language/Welsh (First Language), Science or a Level 2 qualification in Electronics. You will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Assessment

Assessment methods within this qualification include an on-screen multiple-choice examination for one mandatory unit and one optional unit and Centre marked practical and theory assessments for the other units within a pathway. Assessment methods have been designed to assess the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners for all units. The on-screen multiple-choice examinations are set and marked by the awarding organisation. The internal assessment is set by the awarding organisation and marked by members of the delivery team at the Centre.

Career Progression

You can progress to Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Technology Level 3 which includes Control Engineering, Radar and Radio Systems along with Electronic Principles. Having developed fundamental practical skills and a basic understanding of electrical and electronic concepts, employment opportunities exist in the field of Instrumentation and Electronic Control, such as petro chemical, gas and water distribution along with Electronic Assembly and Automation.
