In the first year AS Level course you will cover:
Mechanics (forces, motion and energy) • Electrons and photons and particles • Materials • Waves • Lasers • Radiation from stars • Quantum phenomena • Superconductivity • Experimental skills The second year (A2) builds upon material studied at AS level and includes; Gravitational, Electric and Magnetic fields • Further mechanics (circular motion and simple harmonic motion) • Thermodynamics • Nuclear physics • Astronomy and Cosmology • Options (a.c. theory, medical physics, physics of sport, environmental physics)
You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including English/Welsh Language at B grade, Maths at grade B plus Double Award Science at BB or above, or GCSE Physics (Higher Tier) at grade B.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
On successful completion of this course many learners apply to and are offered places at university to study courses such as Physics and Engineering. It is acceptable or desirable for many other degree courses such as Optometry, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Mathematics. A number of learners go into employment or move onto an apprenticeship programme.

A Level Programme - You will need to choose 3 or 4 AS Levels to study the A Level Programme
Combined Programme - You will need to choose 1 or 2 AS Levels combined with a vocational option. Vocational options include: Applied Science, IT, Business, Criminology, Law, Sports and Exercise Sciences, or Health and Social Care.
