Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning

We have an opportunity for an Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning to join our team based at their campus of choice. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a highly competitive salary of circa £64,000 per annum. 

Coleg y Cymoedd is a medium sized college with a turnover of around £40m. The college serves the communities of two local authorities in the South Wales central valleys and was created in August 2013, following a merger of two neighbouring colleges.

About the role:

As our Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning, you will be the strategic lead for the teaching and learning across the curriculum offer at Coleg y Cymoedd.  The post holder will devise, deliver and implement strategies to pull together the varying strands of teaching and learning into one coherent pathway with quality and equality at the heart. 

Key tasks and responsibilities of our Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning includes:

- Strategic lead on the planning and implementation of initiatives concerned with teaching and learning

- Review, update and develop college policies (including the More Able and Talented policy) relating to teaching and learning, ensuring consistency and ambition are at the core

- Lead on the colleges response regarding changes to curriculum design, delivery and assessment methodologies

- Work with the Human Resources department to plan and deliver a programme of development activities to support improvement in teaching and learning and the associated outcomes

- Lead on the college response to, and adoption of the emerging professional standards for curriculum staff

- Coordinate the work of the teaching and learning coaches within the college and the mentoring schemes involving external mentors

- Work alongside the Quality Manager in order to action awarding body feedback on assessment processes and standards

- Ensure that there is a close, supportive and informed working relationship between the curriculum staff and learner support services

- Line manage three heads of school in support of the consistent, collaborative approach to quality management and the commitment to all learners, including setting stretching targets

- Represent the college on the newly established Colegau Cymru teaching and learning network

- Ensure that all external deadlines and reporting requirements are satisfied with high quality and accurate reports

- Participate in and develop the college’s performance management and review processes so that they support the college’s drive to excellence in all activities

- Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the college at any of the college’s sites, commensurate with the seniority of the post

Skills and experience required to become our Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning:

- Degree

- Teaching qualification

- Experience of a relevant management role in further education or another education setting

- Proven experience of managing change which leads to a positive impact

- Able to give examples of encouraging and leading others in responding quickly and effectively to the requirements for change, particularly around the use of ILT to support teaching and learning

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce and explain relevant and helpful data driven reports

- Experience of planning and delivering training to support teaching and learning
