This course provides you with the high standard of training you need to begin working with children. Time is spent in college and in a number of appropriate work placements in order to gain relevant experience.
What Will I Learn?
You will study a range of units, which include looking at child development from birth to 19 years of age, as well as planning and implementing activities to carry out with children.
During the year, you will have mandatory practical work placement training with children within the relevant age range. In addition to these units, you will study Essential Skills for Work & Life, Communication, Application of Number or the option to study GCSE Maths and English.
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D, including Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh at Grade D. As well as producing a satisfactory DBS , applicants are required to provide evidence of their suitability to work in the care sector . All applicants will be provided with a “ Suitability for Care pro-forma “ that must be completed . Applicants with appropriate experience, who do not necessarily meet the academic qualifications, may be considered.
You will be invited to attend an interview and you will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
You will be assessed using a range of methods, both in college and at work placement.

Learners attending Care and Childcare courses need to purchase a £ 11.00 polo shirt to wear at placement and to pay for a DBS check.
- After successfully completing this course, you will be able to apply for other CACHE awards or employment in a Childcare and Education supervised capacity, e.g. primary and nursery schools, day nurseries, private homes, playgroups, child-minding, family centres, crèches and in Special Education.
