Course Information

This course is primarily intended for those who have successfully completed a Level 1 qualification and who wish to build a career in the motor trade.

What Will I Learn?

This vocational course enables learners to build on existing knowledge and experience and uses a combination of theory and practice to study several modules, including:

• Vehicle Servicing • Vehicle Engine , Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling Systems • Vehicle Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust Systems • Vehicle Transmissions • Vehicle Chassis Units • Vehicle Electrics

In addition the course will cover Essential Skills and The Welsh Baccalaureate (WBQ).

All learning takes place in our modern, well-equipped workshops on site facilitated by qualified and highly experienced tutors.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including Maths/Numeracy, English/Welsh & Science , or a Level 1 qualification with the appropriate selection of units. Some practical experience of motor vehicles is also essential. You may also be required to pass an entry test.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

There is a combination of assessment methods including a workshop-based practical portfolio developed by you throughout the year and on-line knowledge tests at the end of each module.

Entry Requirements

Mechanical engineers usually possess an accredited university degree. After qualifying, periods of appropriate training and experience are required before membership of a chartered engineering institution is attainable. Incorporated engineers possess an accredited university degree, BTEC/SQA award or an apprenticeship leading to an NVQ/SVQ at Level 4, followed by periods of training and relevant experience.
