This course is suitable for learners who are interested in developing new or existing skills which are needed for employment in a range of IT, business and administrative careers; providing the opportunity for you to develop skills and manage a range of IT software packages
This is a course, which starts from the basics and develops through to more complex aspects of Microsoft application-based software. It is for anyone who is interested in gaining practical software application skills and business and administration experience. All learning is undertaken within our modern and well-equipped classrooms and will take place within a supportive and friendly environment.
What Will I Learn?
Level 1 City and Guilds Diploma in IT Applications for IT Users; BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Introductory Business; Essential Skills Wales in Communication and Application of Number. Opportunity to sit GCSE in English and Mathematics (Previous Grades dependant).
Within your Level 1 Diploma in IT Applications for IT Users qualification you may study units in: Improving Productivity Using IT, Email, Web design, Desktop Publishing, IT Software Fundamentals, Email, Design Software, Internet, IT Communications Software, Multi Media, Drawing and Planning Software, Database, Spreadsheets, Presentation Graphics and Word Processing.
The BTEC Business qualification is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and understanding of business activities needed to progress to higher levels of study or into employment. Topics included are Being Organised, Organising a Meeting, Branding a Product and Career Progression Planning.
3 GCSE's at grades A*- E including English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or successful completion of an Entry 3 Foundation qualification.
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills which will also establish any individual support required.
As part of the Level 1 Diploma for IT Users you will be assessed by completing set assignments. You will be expected to work to deadlines and maintain your course files/portfolios to the required standards. These are internally assessed by your tutor, internally moderated and externally moderated by an examiner from City & Guilds. As part of the Btech qualification Skills are learnt through a combination of classroom and practical learning. All units are assessed by the completion of Btec Business Assignments. These are internally assessed by your tutor then externally moderated by an examiner from BTEC.

IT operations technicians are responsible for the day-to-day running of IT systems and networks including the preparation of back-up systems, and for performing regular checks to ensure the smooth functioning of such systems.
Entry is possible with a variety of academic qualifications and/or relevant experience. Entrants typically possess GCSEs/S grades and A levels/H grades together with appropriate NVQ/SVQ (Levels 2, 3 or 4) or an equivalent vocational qualification. Some employers may demand a relevant degree. Training is provided off- and on-the-job supplemented by specialised courses. Postgraduate and professional qualifications and apprenticeships in some areas are available.
