Course Information

This course has been designed for learners with a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification for a career within an exciting customer focussed Hairdressing profession.

You will benefit from a variety of activities designed to bring out the best of your potential, and enable you to use your skills and knowledge to progress to a Level 3 Hairdressing qualification.

What Will I Learn?

You will study units that reflect the needs of the Hairdressing profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector you will study; Aspects of hairdressing to enable you to work as a stylist. Employment Standards, Health & Safety’, Customer Service, Essential Skills in Communication & Application of Number.

The course contains both theory and practical Hairdressing based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment

You will also be required to undertake 25+ hours’ of work placement; this is a mandatory element of the programme.

Entry Requirements

You will require 3 GCSEs grades A*- D including English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification.

You will also be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.

Purchase of Equipment and Kit is required for this course (Compulsory Cost - Uniform - £22, Hairdressing Kit - £159.68). Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.

  • On successful completion of this programme you may decide to enter employment as a junior stylist. If you decide to progress onto the Level 3 Hairdressing programme, which is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry; Colour Artist, Media Hairstylist, Cruise Liners Stylist, Salon Owner, Lecturer and Trainer/Assessor.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required for entry although entrants usually possess a BTEC/SQA award, an NVQ/SVQ in Hairdressing at Level 3, an apprenticeship and/or relevant experience.
