Course Information

Film Studies is a fast growing subject both at AS/A Level and in universities. The course is for learners who wish to deepen their understanding and appreciation of film both practically and academically. The subject develops creativity, observation and critical analysis.

What Will I Learn?

At AS Level you will study: Exploring Film Form (coursework) covers the deconstruction and analysis of films, using micro elements such as sound and cinematography. Practical film making. Plus British and American Film (exam). Learn how UK film genres differ to Hollywood film and focus on key areas of British and American film such as Working Title and Comedy.

At A2 Level you will study: Individual Film Research and screen writing or film making (coursework). Plus Varieties of Film Experiences (exam) World Cinema, Urban Stories. Documentaries and Spectatorship and a Critical Study of Fight Club.

Entry Requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including grade B English/Welsh Language.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed by 50% coursework and 50% examination.

Arts officers, producers and directors assume creative, financial and organisational responsibilities in the production and direction of television and radio programmes, films, stage presentations, content for other media, and the promotion and exhibition of other creative activities.

Entry Requirements

Entry can be via academic qualifications, BTEC/SQA awards, diplomas or degrees in sector-relevant subjects. Apprenticeships are available at NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in some areas.
