The Barbering qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair, how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning or styling services patterning hair and how to offer a good consultation service for clients.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.
What Will I Learn?
You will study units that reflect the needs of the Barbering profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector you will study;
Scalp massage services or Hair Patterning (depending on the campus), Traditional & modern barbering techniques, both practically & theoretically, Employment Standards, Health & Safety and Customer Service..
You will require 3 GCSEs grades A*- D including English and Maths, or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification.
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.

Job holders in this unit group plan, organise, direct and co-ordinate the activities and resources of hairdressing salons, beauty treatment and similar establishments.
No formal qualifications are required for entry although entrants usually possess a BTEC/SQA award, an NVQ/SVQ in Hairdressing at Level 3, an apprenticeship and/or relevant experience.
