This hairdressing and beauty therapy combined qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in both professions through the following units; Colour hair using temporary colour, Shampoo and condition hair, Styling women’s hair and Head massage. Improving the appearance of the hands and feet with manicure and pedicure services. Skincare to improve skin appearance and texture. To further enhance your skills you will also cover artistic and creative elements on your course such as, Creating an Image using colour for the hair and beauty sector.
To underpin this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety, and you will also develop an understanding of the skills required to support you in the hairdressing and beauty industry such as salon reception duties, working with others, presenting a professional Image and Introduction to the hair and beauty sector. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in both hairdressing and beauty therapy and will provide you with the foundation for further learning and progression onto the Level 2 of either hairdressing or beauty therapy. It will also enable you to perform your own basic services and to assist others in the salon.
What Will I Learn?
You will study; Units that reflect the needs of the Hairdressing and Beauty profession. Employment Standards and Health & Safety, while further preparing you for a career within this sector.
You will also study Essential Skills in Communication & Application of Number and Information Technology.
The course contains both theory and practical based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment.
You will require 3 GCSEs at grades A* - E including English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a foundation course qualification.
You will be invited to attend a first line interview and attend second line course presentation. You will also be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios or controlled tasks.

- On successful completion of this programme you will be able to progress onto a Level 2 Beauty Therapy programme or Level 2 Hairdressing programme. Level 2/3 is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry.

Job holders in this unit group plan, organise, direct and co-ordinate the activities and resources of hairdressing salons, beauty treatment and similar establishments.
No formal qualifications are required for entry although entrants usually possess a BTEC/SQA award, an NVQ/SVQ in Hairdressing at Level 3, an apprenticeship and/or relevant experience.
