Level 1/Level 2 Course for Skills for Further Study

Start (w/c): 01/09/2020 Full Time - To be arranged (09:00 to 16:00) Aberdare

Course Information

This programme prepares you for progression to Higher Education. Different pathways are available. This course may be used as an academic qualification and is an excellent preparation for a number of Level 3 Access to Higher Education courses.

What Will I Learn?

All subjects are divided up into chunks of learning called units, which may be at Level 2 (GCSE standard) or Level 1 (Preparation level). Sufficient units must be achieved to gain the Level 2 Diploma.

Great emphasis is placed on Study Skills and units to develop this will be the major part of the course. In addition, you will learn how to write for different situations, research and reference your essays, as well as gain IT and Numeracy skills to enable you to produce suitable assignments and presentations.

There will also be a range of science units (depending on the Pathway you choose) that focus on underpinning knowledge for many of the Level 3 courses that you may wish to progress to.

Entry Requirements

Completion of previous level qualification in order to progress (e.g Entry 3 required for Level 1, Level 1 required for Level 2). Applicants should be aged 16 and over and will be selected via an interview. Applicants will also be expected to write a pen portrait during the Interview process.

You will be assessed by your tutors throughout the year at the completion of each unit. There will be short tests, research projects, essays, presentations, etc.
