Course Information

This course prepares you for progression to Higher Education to study Humanities and Social Sciences. The objective of the course is to provide a supportive and friendly environment to enable you to develop your potential and to prepare you for University-level study, with many past students going on to gain degrees and other awards.

What Will I Learn?

You will study English Literature, Sociology, Psychology and Law (Nantgarw and Rhondda campuses) or History (Aberdare and Ystrad Mynach Campuses), all at Level 3. You will also study Communication, Oral Presentation Skills and Study Skills at Level 3, and Numeracy at Level 2. A range of units is studied for each subject area.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required however you will be invited to undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment prior to interview to determine your suitability for the course. As the course requires a high level of dedication and academic rigour, you may be directed to a more appropriate programme of study.

Assessment

You will be assessed by continuous assessment with at least one unseen controlled assessment in each subject area. Assignments are graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction. You will also be expected to maintain your course files and all portfolios to the required standards.
