This course provides learners with practical creative skills and knowledge of make-up application across performance, period drama and special effects. The course is currently delivered three hours per week on Tuesday evenings 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
The course is equivalent to half an A level and aims to develop creative make-up skills allowing you to progress to the full-time level 3 diploma or apply for work in the expanding creative TV & Film sector in Wales.
What Will I Learn?
You will study 3 units over the year including: • Make-up Application Skills and Creative Uses in Performance • Period Make-up for Performing Arts • Special Effects Make-up
Entry requirements include 3 GCSEs A*- C including English/Welsh and Maths or a subject-related Level 2 Diploma qualification with essential skills in literacy and numeracy at Level 2 or above.
Mature learners without such qualifications are considered on an individual basis and a range of prior experience may be taken into account.
Each unit is assessed based on the specific requirements of specifications distributed by the awarding body and includes a combination of practical, project based, hands-on assessment and written research, evaluation and reflection. Projects will endeavour to revolve around professional performances and industry shows/events. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated.

We also offer opportunities to progress into Higher Education at Coleg y Cymoedd via our level 4/5 HND in Creative Production Arts (Make-Up Pathway) and the level 6 BA (Hons) TV and Film: Hair, Make-up and Special Effects (Top-up). Employment opportunities exist via the ever-expanding creative TV and Film sector within South Wales.
