Course Information
This course has been designed for those with no previous experience of Hairdressing and to provide a foundation for a career within the exciting customer focussed Hairdressing profession.
You will benefit from a variety of activities designed to bring out the best of your potential, and enable you to use your skills and knowledge to progress to a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification.
What Will I Learn?
You will study units that reflect the needs of the Hairdressing profession, while further preparing you for a career within this sector.
You will study; Primary aspects of hairdressing to enable you to assist the stylist, Employment Standards, Health & Safety, Customer Service, Essential Skills in Communication and Application of Number.
The course contains both theory and practical Hairdressing based lessons with many opportunities to work within a commercial environment.
You will also be required to undertake 25 hours’ of work placement; this is a mandatory element of the programme.
Entry Requirements
You will require 3 GCSEs grades A*- E including English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a foundation course qualification.
You will be invited to attend a first line interview and second line course presentation. You will also be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
Assessment
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of a portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.

Purchase of Equipment and Kit is required for this course (Compulsory Cost - Uniform - £22, Hairdressing Kit - £156.85). Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.

Career Progression
- On successful completion of this programme you may be able to progress to a Level 2 Hairdressing programme. Level 2/3 is strongly recommended to achieve your full potential for the professional requirements of the Industry; Junior Stylist, Colour Artist, Media Hairstylist, Cruise Liners Stylist, Salon Owner, Lecturer and Trainer/Assessor.
